They're also eclectic in the different forms they take, from dotted 'ditsy' prints to oversized motifs to 3D appliqué that jumps off the material. It was Vivetta's take on the latter that has whetted my aesthetic appetite of late.<br />
<div style="position: relative;">
<div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 600px;">
<a href="http://www.polyvore.com/vivetta_navy_cotton_embroidered_tea/thing?.embedder=5081908&.svc=copypaste&id=169841826" target="_blank"><img alt="Vivetta Navy Cotton Embroidered Tea Dress" border="0" src="http://embed.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-thing/size/y/tid/169841826.jpg" height="600" title="Vivetta Navy Cotton Embroidered Tea Dress" width="600" /></a></div>

</div>
The graduation from flat to 3D was something I wanted to try but I decided to shake things up a bit, medium-wise. It was one thing sewing flowers on but what about adding in a little colour contrast?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GRgF8tRARx4/V_p0kLV79LI/AAAAAAAAJME/_pJmVtaNeHovOU4FyYagSsBsGESQ6Vr_wCLcB/s1600/IMG_0306.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GRgF8tRARx4/V_p0kLV79LI/AAAAAAAAJME/_pJmVtaNeHovOU4FyYagSsBsGESQ6Vr_wCLcB/s1600/IMG_0306.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The next step was to dye the dress using Dylon fabric dye. It's intended for natural fabrics; synthetic fabrics don't soak up the colour as well. And so, when I dyed my dress, with its mix of natural, synthetic and synthetic blend fabrics, that was the whole point.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-432rlI54_pg/V_p0es_w6II/AAAAAAAAJMA/_fIV3lDKeKEqbvIPUuuxciQRGSB9tScdwCLcB/s1600/IMG_0302.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-432rlI54_pg/V_p0es_w6II/AAAAAAAAJMA/_fIV3lDKeKEqbvIPUuuxciQRGSB9tScdwCLcB/s1600/IMG_0302.JPG" /></a></div>

Here at Chic Cheat, I, too, had to get in on the action.<br />
<h1>
You will need...</h1>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A1I2HX7qnFY/V_p45KfzCeI/AAAAAAAAJMY/N4J1hoVssWAv1fufVVPuyYoz8SQxYieGQCK4B/s1600/IMG_0285.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-A1I2HX7qnFY/V_p45KfzCeI/AAAAAAAAJMY/N4J1hoVssWAv1fufVVPuyYoz8SQxYieGQCK4B/s640/IMG_0285.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Difficulty</h1>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iPSFkeNOhOM/V_p5IVH8QYI/AAAAAAAAJMg/1K_ZfOHi7ew57FBoWWRxQ1ycML3-VauIgCK4B/s1600/difficulty02.gif" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iPSFkeNOhOM/V_p5IVH8QYI/AAAAAAAAJMg/1K_ZfOHi7ew57FBoWWRxQ1ycML3-VauIgCK4B/s1600/difficulty02.gif" /></a><br />
<br />
<h1>
Easy</h1>
<br />
If you can cut shapes out of faux fur, you can do this project; that part is about as hard as it gets.<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
One hour, maximum.<br />
<h1>
Create a monster</h1>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZVMgy2AhD0/V_p5k2aa1YI/AAAAAAAAJMo/giqesbitLe8_y6aS4S8mcNN0xoiFmirqgCK4B/s1600/IMG_0276.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5ZVMgy2AhD0/V_p5k2aa1YI/AAAAAAAAJMo/giqesbitLe8_y6aS4S8mcNN0xoiFmirqgCK4B/s640/IMG_0276.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
Fur is a very difficult texture to mark,especially, if you're working with a dark colour. I used a gold paint pen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ERhgsUoAkIU/V_p6NE2EyUI/AAAAAAAAJMw/bARUFoYcKJYwK7xr4Vp9nySS_H6D8X2ugCK4B/s1600/IMG_0278.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ERhgsUoAkIU/V_p6NE2EyUI/AAAAAAAAJMw/bARUFoYcKJYwK7xr4Vp9nySS_H6D8X2ugCK4B/s640/IMG_0278.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WiCD9p-SBhw/V_p6NVeP3EI/AAAAAAAAJM4/nNg5ya3TkBUHsTo8-UALxXtunnyijOPRwCK4B/s1600/IMG_0277.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WiCD9p-SBhw/V_p6NVeP3EI/AAAAAAAAJM4/nNg5ya3TkBUHsTo8-UALxXtunnyijOPRwCK4B/s640/IMG_0277.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
N.B. Don't forget to trim back the fur on the base where you want your monster's eyes to go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<h1>
Very easy</h1>
<br />
In principle, it couldn't be simpler, however there are two caveats: results may vary depending on your technique; and, the not-so-easy challenge here is to keep your work surfaces clean. Prepare to get messy!<br />

Mine took about 10 minutes.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
N.B. You will need 8 large sequins (4 of each colour) if you want to make yours exactly like the original but I decided to do mine differently. <br />

<br />
<br />
<h1>
Quite easy</h1>
<br />
Straightforward and easy when you know how but certain parts of the process are quite fiddly, especially making the ball shapes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
One-and-a-half hours.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Get the ball (earrings) rolling</h1>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KXw_s9vtjWE/V_qswt1RjCI/AAAAAAAAJP8/cXrNONIeeEox1pciCv9k43N6zeM_7JzAQCK4B/s1600/IMG_0121.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KXw_s9vtjWE/V_qswt1RjCI/AAAAAAAAJP8/cXrNONIeeEox1pciCv9k43N6zeM_7JzAQCK4B/s640/IMG_0121.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
N.B. Cut each slit on the opposite side of the sequin to the hole.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bMtlgadlx_k/V_qtaHpvPmI/AAAAAAAAJQE/bqZFRmko0wYC3Pcrb8jrvsLWCkZGEHktwCK4B/s1600/IMG_0120.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bMtlgadlx_k/V_qtaHpvPmI/AAAAAAAAJQE/bqZFRmko0wYC3Pcrb8jrvsLWCkZGEHktwCK4B/s640/IMG_0120.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
As stated previously, if you want to make yours like the original, you will need to cut four sequins in each colour and glue them together in pairs, with one of each colour.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EdyrV_A0d6k/V_qtuU6uN0I/AAAAAAAAJQM/Rq9KL3RqxRMkseQRhlOfxb0i5uiDWjOoQCK4B/s1600/IMG_0118.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EdyrV_A0d6k/V_qtuU6uN0I/AAAAAAAAJQM/Rq9KL3RqxRMkseQRhlOfxb0i5uiDWjOoQCK4B/s640/IMG_0118.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
With the slits facing each other, slide two disc sequins together at right angles to each other to form a ball shape. Put gemstone glue inside the slits beforehand so that the ball shape can be sealed together easily.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xCwlsJD0rIc/V_qt__8_QkI/AAAAAAAAJQY/Wlq9cMcipgk3xNJKGBVLa2U8VgS8HDMVACK4B/s1600/IMG_0124.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xCwlsJD0rIc/V_qt__8_QkI/AAAAAAAAJQY/Wlq9cMcipgk3xNJKGBVLa2U8VgS8HDMVACK4B/s640/IMG_0124.JPG" width="508" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ljvkJsHxoMg/V_quYADha2I/AAAAAAAAJQg/WHJ29ZWvsScdQDMq5zkBFAZPaCqXaV6rACK4B/s1600/IMG_0139.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ljvkJsHxoMg/V_quYADha2I/AAAAAAAAJQg/WHJ29ZWvsScdQDMq5zkBFAZPaCqXaV6rACK4B/s1600/IMG_0139.JPG" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<h1>
Quite easy</h1>
<br />
Can't think of anything too demanding here but getting everything perfectly neat and professional-looking can be challenging.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
This took a lot longer than expected! Unfortunately, it took me somewhere between five and eight hours, although a lot of that was down to trial and error, so I'd say the actual work itself, without setbacks, would take somewhere within the region of five hours.<br />
<h1>
Slat that</h1>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RS1HCm5oGqk/V_qy1TnUdRI/AAAAAAAAJSY/xW-rOvNuqFANaYH9cCaZRQ_XmZo_yfxHgCK4B/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="488" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RS1HCm5oGqk/V_qy1TnUdRI/AAAAAAAAJSY/xW-rOvNuqFANaYH9cCaZRQ_XmZo_yfxHgCK4B/s640/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
Turn the sweatshirt inside-out and cover the front and back with interfacing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MsYaE-YcGfM/V_q7rcXXwgI/AAAAAAAAJSk/d6FwKsm5hHcTbbJW5uRnwgJdb_IRHEiIwCK4B/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MsYaE-YcGfM/V_q7rcXXwgI/AAAAAAAAJSk/d6FwKsm5hHcTbbJW5uRnwgJdb_IRHEiIwCK4B/s640/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Decide where you want the slits to go. I set mine out at 10cm intervals across the front, using my patternmaster to measure parallel lines 6cm from each side of the top, followed by two lines for the 'edge allowance' (you'll see what I mean later on) - each 2cm apart - and repeating the process until I reached the centre. I repeated this process across the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wyp4rCC0rPA/V_q8Vw-xPII/AAAAAAAAJS0/Ui61bnf4qh0_0sfzB5UwIsZ9TLkErK8OQCK4B/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="492" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wyp4rCC0rPA/V_q8Vw-xPII/AAAAAAAAJS0/Ui61bnf4qh0_0sfzB5UwIsZ9TLkErK8OQCK4B/s640/4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Cut strips of Bondaweb to cover the edge allowance on both sides. Again, mine were 4cm wide and I wouldn't recommend making them any narrower, otherwise the eyelets may be too wide for them. Iron the Bondaweb in place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-47v5a2CE4QA/V_q8H9aWI0I/AAAAAAAAJSs/NUJxfX60mfYw0Fn2p7yd-ONq-mjhgzTTACK4B/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="504" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-47v5a2CE4QA/V_q8H9aWI0I/AAAAAAAAJSs/NUJxfX60mfYw0Fn2p7yd-ONq-mjhgzTTACK4B/s640/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Cut lines along the centre of the edge allowance (you should have these already marked out) with V-shaped tips at either end.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OwXd0gpd5HM/V_q8qRLUQLI/AAAAAAAAJS8/7YFHLhWQ6ZMSFDfk4KuXJhqBHeDeZEPtgCK4B/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="520" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OwXd0gpd5HM/V_q8qRLUQLI/AAAAAAAAJS8/7YFHLhWQ6ZMSFDfk4KuXJhqBHeDeZEPtgCK4B/s640/5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Fold the edges back on themselves, including the pointed tips at the ends, and iron them to fix them in place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BHe-abRJ4w0/V_q9LVBGXEI/AAAAAAAAJTE/zuW93adG6D4oQW8guatlMnipALG4YkZlwCK4B/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="500" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BHe-abRJ4w0/V_q9LVBGXEI/AAAAAAAAJTE/zuW93adG6D4oQW8guatlMnipALG4YkZlwCK4B/s640/6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Turn the sweatshirt right-side out and punch eyelet holes, measuring them as you go along to make sure they're the same distance apart and that they line up. I set mine out at 10cm intervals. Insert eyelets. You will need to use the eyelet puncher for this part.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i52lLfYp3wQ/V_q9SGMnHgI/AAAAAAAAJTM/CZIwHMfaMAkJ56R_d7KAEkq1F6Xjcj_HQCK4B/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i52lLfYp3wQ/V_q9SGMnHgI/AAAAAAAAJTM/CZIwHMfaMAkJ56R_d7KAEkq1F6Xjcj_HQCK4B/s640/7.jpg" width="516" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Finally, join the eyelets together along the slits by inserting the jump rings. After that, your sweatshirt should hopefully look like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGqvwof2s6Y/V_q9d02aT4I/AAAAAAAAJTY/odzU6lMXtgsu2QSKLZwsinW8Ipgm5LtQACK4B/s1600/final.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="534" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VGqvwof2s6Y/V_q9d02aT4I/AAAAAAAAJTY/odzU6lMXtgsu2QSKLZwsinW8Ipgm5LtQACK4B/s640/final.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

I plumped for curtain rings to add some oversized, statement eyelets to an old coat of mine. Let's just say that it you want to put some purpose into a re-purpose, you need to go beyond the standard clothing fastenings and think big. Thankfully, making such a statement couldn't be simpler.<br/><h1>You will need...</h1><br/>Sewing machine<br/><br/>Curtain ring tape of the right length to cover the desired area (you may want to measure first)<br/><br/>Curtain rings (again, the right number to cover the desired area is always helpful!)<br/><br/>A garment made from non-stretch fabric. <br />
So, now that we've got disclaimers and related niggles out of the way, here's what I have been getting up to over the past fortnight (along with turning 32, getting asked for ID on my birthday and thus undeniably winning at life), I thought there would be no better time to celebrate the 'springing' of the new season than now and no better way than to share some easy-but-effective craft projects to inspire you, in the form of a necklace and some customised flip flops (yes, yes, I know it's still spring and far from tropical but still dreaming, right?).<br />

This season's quirky customised jeans trend was too tempting not to try myself, so I thought I'd share some tips with you from my latest project. One among many advantages of having your own place is to have the luxury of bleaching jeans, like the dangerous rebel that I am, without aggressive parental opprobrium and disapproval. Never mind the carpet-mauling potential bleach has for sending the neurotically house-proud into a frenzy, it was more a case of having to sit through my dad's classic anecdote of his failed attempt to bleach his prized pair of 'baggies' back in the '60s; after dousing them in bleach and leaving them out to dry, they disintegrated in his hands as he picked them up from the washing line! Thankfully - and perhaps because trusty denim essentials are made from tougher substances these days - it was never enough to put me off. I have ways of avoiding such a scenario, which I thought I'd share, along with a few more ideas for re-purposing a pair of old jeans.<br />

This Louis Vuitton metallic jacket, worn by Karlie Kloss on the cover of Elle magazine, whetted my fashion appetite and inspired me to craft a version of my own - well, customise a £5 electric blue PVC jacket I rescued from a charity shop! It was a lengthier-than-expected five-hour project but it was worth it for the result. It's possibly the easiest project I've ever done, as it didn't require any skill, except for a bit of paint blending. It's a fun, straightforward project but be warned - things are going to get messy!

<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
With the (quintessentially 90s) trend of the logo-as-statement-feature reborn in 2016, its latest incarnation has left plenty of inspiration for DIY projects in the quirky new label designs. Kenzo's cactus clutch was no exception, so, with my appetite for craft well and truly whetted, I found myself reaching for my fabric paint drawer.</div>

<h1>
You will need...</h1>
<br />
Metallic clutch<br />
<br />
Black 3D fabric paint<br />
<br />
Pink and white fabric paint<br />
<br />
Wide-tipped paint brush<br />
<br />
Masking tape<br />
<h1>
Difficulty</h1>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u9Uaiyt4MuY/V_rBzszxAEI/AAAAAAAAJVQ/qN4hnOs-wog-3p4T8pRthLu3V1YmS7GkgCK4B/s1600/Difficulty%2BNA.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u9Uaiyt4MuY/V_rBzszxAEI/AAAAAAAAJVQ/qN4hnOs-wog-3p4T8pRthLu3V1YmS7GkgCK4B/s1600/Difficulty%2BNA.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Hard to gauge; it depends on what it is you're painting (mine was quite fiddly) and how dexterous you are with fabric paint. One thing I will say is that this is a straightforward project without any challenging surprises.<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
Doable in an hour.<br />
<h1>
Blooming genius</h1>
<br />
<br />
Decide where you want to paint your design and stick strips of masking tape around the designated area, ensuring they are parallel by aligning them with the edges.<br />
<br />
In my logo design, I painted the white lettering by pinching the brush, so the bristles were flattened and could paint a petal-like shape. I painted the pink blossoms normally.<br />
<br />
The black parts were done with 3D fabric paint, using thin slivers of paint and spreading them as sparingly as possible with the tip of the nozzle.<br />

After fashion recently took a golden leaf out of the David Bowie book of fabulous footwear with the <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2016/jan/19/kate-moss-and-the-rise-of-bowie-ankle-boots">glitter ankle boot trend</a>, I thought it only right to follow suit with a DIY tribute of my own.</div>

Ankle boots. Don't forget them, they're pretty important.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Difficulty</h1>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P5a3PAsyYcA/V_rFc0LprHI/AAAAAAAAJVk/Btd7K1khsn8bsDnBzXFgHlqBDt2ZxMnZACK4B/s1600/difficulty02.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P5a3PAsyYcA/V_rFc0LprHI/AAAAAAAAJVk/Btd7K1khsn8bsDnBzXFgHlqBDt2ZxMnZACK4B/s1600/difficulty02.gif" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Quite easy</h1>
<br />
As long as you're reasonably careful and dexterous with stencils and spray glue, there's no real challenge here - except for keeping your work area clean, expect things to get messy!<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
1-2 hours.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Get some glamour to boot</h1>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7uzwmLieIXI/V_rFo8OyRfI/AAAAAAAAJVs/fxOHYhj901ozFY3y20GJM1-3KDVuyaKaACK4B/s1600/Method1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7uzwmLieIXI/V_rFo8OyRfI/AAAAAAAAJVs/fxOHYhj901ozFY3y20GJM1-3KDVuyaKaACK4B/s640/Method1.jpg" width="596" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Clip a sheet of adhesive paper to the side of a boot and cut it away along the centre back, across the top and along the sole. Draw out a design and cut it out, <strong>discarding</strong> the bit of adhesive paper <strong>inside the design</strong> and <strong>keeping</strong> <strong>the bit outside the design</strong> - you need to use this to <strong>mask the area where you don't want the craft mount and glitter to go. Don't peel the back of the adhesive paper yet.</strong><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TUQrXWuAAao/V_rFxorZ1JI/AAAAAAAAJV0/skbAL4AoEcU441wlMFOoRpfFH207nNoqwCK4B/s1600/Method2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="324" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TUQrXWuAAao/V_rFxorZ1JI/AAAAAAAAJV0/skbAL4AoEcU441wlMFOoRpfFH207nNoqwCK4B/s640/Method2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Lay the templates of each of your designs flat (and adhesive-side-up), on top of the 'wrong' side of another piece of adhesive paper (adhesive-side-down), trace the design and cut it out as before. Repeat this process for designs you want to copy four times, i.e. those that go along both sides of each boot.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6zgi8WBIlJU/V_rF-qMcdfI/AAAAAAAAJV8/-v9MmErVUiA5X3lhyYUcBf7p0gyXmshDACK4B/s1600/Method3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="348" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6zgi8WBIlJU/V_rF-qMcdfI/AAAAAAAAJV8/-v9MmErVUiA5X3lhyYUcBf7p0gyXmshDACK4B/s640/Method3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once you have cut out all your templates peel away the backing, stick them in place, spray the stencilled area with craft mount and sprinkle glitter all over it. Wait briefly for the craft mount to dry and then remove the adhesive paper.<br />
<br />
I used face wipes and a dash of white spirit to clean stray glitter off the boots, before applying a thin layer of clear lacquer to hold the glitter in place and keep it from dropping everywhere.<br />

<br />
<br />
<h1>
Very easy</h1>
<br />
An easy and therapeutic case of cut, stick 'n' colour (if you don't mind things getting a little messy!).<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Print the above template across a sheet of A4, cut the letters out and place each one on the flat 'wrong' side of a differently coloured piece of faux fur.<br />

<script async="" defer="defer" src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"></script><br />
<br />
The next step is to decide where to stick the lettering - and make sure it's straight! I did this by placing a magazine (you can also use an A4 sheet of paper) along the top of the ribbing and directly above the hem. I also used a patternmaster to make up the extra distance because I felt that the lettering didn't sit high enough.<br />
<br />
Once you're happy with the placing of the letters, keep something in place to mark the line out and stick them down with craft mount.<br />

A busy schedule and a spell of apathy I've been feeling under the oppressive grip of winter were the motivation behind this quick cardigan refashion. It's something about the fluffiness of the pompoms plus the fact that you simply have to sew press studs along the middle and then stitch the pompoms in place and Bob's your uncle that made this just the right project for a bleak winter's eve. All that's left to say is that when you do sew the pompoms in place, make sure you stitch through the middle of the pompom, pulling the thread as tightly as it will go.ChicCheatCharleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13618840171373934471noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1045637375916433706.post-66040900309418214442016-01-17T15:28:00.000-08:002016-08-27T15:46:37.190-07:00Get it in the neck - an extra easy choker tutorial<img class="alwaysThinglink" style="max-width: 100%;" src="https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xpf1/t51.2885-15/s640x640/sh0.08/e35/12407591_575196482637805_2006410561_n.jpg#tl-745415699408617474;1043138249'" alt="" /><br/><br/>With chokers taking centre stage as a trend - starting last year and it appears it's meant to go on for next season - you can't go far wrong with anything from metal masterpieces to <a href="http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2015/11/17/90s-chokers-trend-revival/">90s retro</a>. I plumped for an easy tutorial to tackle the latter, remembering vividly how I used to love the new age look of an adjustable choker fashioned from black cord and a single charm (ideally a mood stone or an ethnic-style bead). Take it from someone who's been there, adjustable single-bead chokers are every bit as much of an authentic '90s staple as their velvet and stretch wire contemporaries.<br/><br/><script src="//cdn.thinglink.me/jse/embed.js" async="" charset="utf-8"></script>ChicCheatCharleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13618840171373934471noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1045637375916433706.post-62828631070734405552016-01-11T14:12:00.000-08:002016-10-09T16:03:52.935-07:00Crossover chic - DIY lattice ankle bootsIn one of my more indulgent entries, I thought I'd round off the party season with some bold yet adaptable gold lattice ankle boots.<br />

<h2>
In hindsight...</h2>
<br />
From here onwards is where I would change the method to make the project both easier and neater. What I should have done and would recommend doing would be to cut away the remaining fabric from the boots completely, fold it in half, trace the design onto the other side and cut it out. I would then have needed to cut away the fabric on the other boot, laid it flat, traced the design onto that and cut it out.<br />
<br />
My next step would have been to lay the two cut out pieces face-down onto the gold material, facing the 'wrong' side, and trace around them with 2cm strips where I wanted the laces to go (which I'd fold into loops - as I did later on) and 1cm of excess fabric along the base, before cutting them out. After cutting both pieces out, my last steps would be to stick them to each of the matching pieces of material I cut from the boots with craft mount and attach them to the boots by stapling the material along the soles.<br />

All set to party for new year's eve? Got plans in place? (Like, had them since April, duh!) And yet completely stumped on what to wear for the big night? I here at Chic Cheat can help assuage your last-minute wardrobe worries a straightforward statement shoe refashion that can give an old pair of black evening shoes a lift or - one might even say - wings!<br />
<h1>
You will need...</h1>
<br />
Black high-heeled sandals (unless, of course, you want yours to be in another colour to the original. This is, after all, a free country!)<br />
<br />
Gold leather or faux leather (I'd recommend the latter in terms of affordability)<br />
<br />
Scalpel<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.crafterscompanion.co.uk/adhesives-c2727/crafters-companion-stick-and-stay-mounting-adhesive-red-can-p1893">Stick 'n' Stay craft mount</a><br />
<br />
Glue gun<br />
<br />
Gold fabric paint<br />
<br />
Black pen<br />
<br />
Printer (optional but recommended)<br />
<h1>
Difficulty</h1>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n5DDninuAek/WAOqY6ZJNDI/AAAAAAAAJZQ/T2WPzvBWJhcav7ITrChdc60YVT2a2p-vQCK4B/s1600/difficulty03.gif" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n5DDninuAek/WAOqY6ZJNDI/AAAAAAAAJZQ/T2WPzvBWJhcav7ITrChdc60YVT2a2p-vQCK4B/s1600/difficulty03.gif" /></a><br />
<div>
</div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<h1>
Quite easy</h1>
<br />
In principle, it's very straightforward in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of a way; you cut out a design and stick it in place. On a practical level, however, it does help to be dexterous with a scalpel on leather (faux or otherwise - I'd say both were the same difficulty) and therein lies the challenge, if any (if that makes sense).<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
A few hours; cutting shapes can be painstaking!<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Taking flight</h1>
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HBaHCYMNDYM/WAOqkjtnnFI/AAAAAAAAJZY/-KlBDvsvIkIXi0PZJk97DbeFdKiAe1-lwCK4B/s1600/IMG_20151228_160257.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HBaHCYMNDYM/WAOqkjtnnFI/AAAAAAAAJZY/-KlBDvsvIkIXi0PZJk97DbeFdKiAe1-lwCK4B/s1600/IMG_20151228_160257.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
This is a template for the design I used. To save yourself the hassle of tracing or copying, I'd recommend printing the design, which measures roughly 18cm x 10cm, and cutting it out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-biVjWDZpfKw/WAO01WzNDSI/AAAAAAAAJZw/n7ewDqTzpUYZCNWBhAoickbTA7-hqB6AACK4B/s1600/IMG_20151227_004742.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="365" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-biVjWDZpfKw/WAO01WzNDSI/AAAAAAAAJZw/n7ewDqTzpUYZCNWBhAoickbTA7-hqB6AACK4B/s640/IMG_20151227_004742.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
</div>
<br />
On the back of the gold material, trace around the template twice, then turn the template over and trace around it twice again, so that the last two shapes mirror the first two shapes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2pL-pLPRllQ/WAO0gtJKcjI/AAAAAAAAJZo/gPk9uARRF_0bzAlrvGtUHe2TwAYh596RQCK4B/s1600/IMG_20151228_160342.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="343" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2pL-pLPRllQ/WAO0gtJKcjI/AAAAAAAAJZo/gPk9uARRF_0bzAlrvGtUHe2TwAYh596RQCK4B/s640/IMG_20151228_160342.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
</div>
<br />
<div>
Using a sharp scalpel (I'd recommend one with a fresh blade) cut all the shapes out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-D4YPFeuWr3o/WAO1IeXcGCI/AAAAAAAAJZ4/KSaYc5K7suUuBf_z6d168hm1z-om6afNACK4B/s1600/IMG_20151230_212332.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="508" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-D4YPFeuWr3o/WAO1IeXcGCI/AAAAAAAAJZ4/KSaYc5K7suUuBf_z6d168hm1z-om6afNACK4B/s640/IMG_20151230_212332.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<br />
<div>
</div>
<br />
Use craft mount to stick the shapes along the sides of the shoes and a glue gun to stick the four points down at the back of each shoe. Finally, paint the backs of the wing shapes gold to match the front sides.<br />

My latest creative outing was inspired by Balenciaga's geometric Thunder earrings. This latest venture of festive sparkle-inspired imitation came partly as an ode to the statement earring as an invaluable companion to the classic LBD for carrying off a streak of individuality with seamless elegance. However, it was the idea of making wire jewellery that didn't look like a paint-by-numbers (as it were) craft project that swung my decision to take on this quick, simple project.<br />

<br />
<h1>
Very easy</h1>
<br />
<br />
If you're reasonably dexterous with wire and long-nosed pliers, this should be a quick, straightforward and enjoyable outing.<br />
<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
I wasn't really watching the clock this time around - you might almost say I got too caught up in the moment - but it was definitely under an hour.<br />
<br />
<h1>

<div>
<br /></div>
Bend the wire into a geometric design. I found that the best way to get the tight oblong corners of the original was to twist the wire as far as you can in a semicircle around the tip of the pliers.<br />
<br />
Make a loop at the top of the earring and solder it to the stud.<br />
N.B. I used studs with quite wide bases and would recommend them for best results.<br />
<br />
Repeat the process to make the other earring.ChicCheatCharleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13618840171373934471noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1045637375916433706.post-56138645528309050072015-12-08T15:29:00.000-08:002016-10-16T10:36:30.638-07:00Luxe and Tux - a brief refashionFor those of you who are wondering if I'm still alive or have been abducted by aliens just as the respective mid-winter festivities are starting, the good news is that tonight I have finally found the motivation to write up my latest project with a mini-tutorial in picture form. My refashion of an evening jacket was inspired by the YSL tuxedo jacket Cara Delevingne wore to the Paper Towns premier.<br />

Having a glam jacket to add at least a token gesture of warmth over skimpy party dresses is no bad investment for the chilly winter months. What's more, a boxy suit jacket is the perfect match of devil-may-care glamour and aloof androgynous mystique, a twist on traditional elegance that gives festive glitz and sparkles a razor-sharp edge.<br />

<br />
<br />
<h1>
Quite easy</h1>
<br />
Parts of this project are a bit on the fiddly side but it's straightforward in principle.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h1>
Time</h1>
<br />
About 2 hours.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
To cover the toe straps of your sandals, cut two pieces of fabric with the following dimensions.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eGgVrKIbyhM/WAO7uah4Y7I/AAAAAAAAJbk/CpcujWanaVMjG-EfjqZJM8xfaMxIO3KEQCK4B/s1600/Method1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="432" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eGgVrKIbyhM/WAO7uah4Y7I/AAAAAAAAJbk/CpcujWanaVMjG-EfjqZJM8xfaMxIO3KEQCK4B/s640/Method1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Fold each piece along the middle and fold back the seam allowance by 1cm along the sides. Press them with an iron.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hdcDajQz7wY/WAO72qsPSKI/AAAAAAAAJbs/ODLARU38yz0UuTDHOVkvUWbktqz4OMXmACK4B/s1600/Method2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="376" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hdcDajQz7wY/WAO72qsPSKI/AAAAAAAAJbs/ODLARU38yz0UuTDHOVkvUWbktqz4OMXmACK4B/s640/Method2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Stick them along the toe straps with craft mount and slip stitch the seams together at the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PgKNu1JECWc/WAO8ESSSJzI/AAAAAAAAJb0/CC1A35QMQXgp9PR0wgYvoUfM6m9ztDLfQCK4B/s1600/Method3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="528" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PgKNu1JECWc/WAO8ESSSJzI/AAAAAAAAJb0/CC1A35QMQXgp9PR0wgYvoUfM6m9ztDLfQCK4B/s640/Method3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Attach the toe straps to the platforms with a few staples at the sides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pK_CcHbJVcI/WAO8Rl0BZmI/AAAAAAAAJcA/O4JxXi9BcrkaczQ6nRhUSPvY0Hz_6VZZwCK4B/s1600/Method4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="552" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pK_CcHbJVcI/WAO8Rl0BZmI/AAAAAAAAJcA/O4JxXi9BcrkaczQ6nRhUSPvY0Hz_6VZZwCK4B/s640/Method4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Sew or glue on your flower design.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mdUhXO9VkiM/WAO9JgOC-DI/AAAAAAAAJcI/mA-zj2KRb6MiIsOM8GTEdL7Id9sAYYbfACK4B/s1600/Method5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mdUhXO9VkiM/WAO9JgOC-DI/AAAAAAAAJcI/mA-zj2KRb6MiIsOM8GTEdL7Id9sAYYbfACK4B/s640/Method5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Spray some craft mount onto the sides of the platforms and the straps and cover them completely with fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I rather fancy I have two genuinely legitimate reasons to be rocking these DIY dangling pompom earrings:<br />
<ol><ol><br />
<li>Christmas is just around the corner (in real terms - yes, I said it!) and the various inexplicable novelty rituals that we observe year-in-year-out in its honour aren't just socially acceptable but a contractual obligation.</li>
<br />
<li>Pompoms have edged their way back into fashion as a subtle yet stylish way to add the idiosyncratic character associated with quirky craft trims, while staying inside the line of good taste.</li>
</ol>
</ol>

<br />
So, really, it's only fair that I should share a quick tutorial with you for getting this simple yet bold look.<br />
