Pop the wall - How to recycle clothes to make Roy Lichtenstein-inspired wall art

Inspiration

You will need

Not pictured

Fabric scissors

Paper scissors or scalpel

Difficulty

Very easy

I've even thrown in a printable template to get you started and spare you some of the hard work. You're welcome!

Time

1-2 hours.

 How to make your picture

Print or trace an image like this on as large a scale as you can - ideally over two sets of A3 paper. Join them down the middle and stick them to some bondaweb.

Now to cut the design out in bondaweb.

Cut along the lines to make the various different shapes in the picture; place the shapes on the fabrics you want to use (NB: make sure you place them on the 'wrong' side of the fabric) and iron them in place.

After that, cut the shapes out in fabric and peel away the paper.

Iron the fabric onto the black sheet to make the image. Then, staple the black sheet to the frame.

DIY denim jacket

In a quick shout-out to rather awesome DIY fashion blog, DIY Vine I thought I'd try one of the tutorials, namely the revamped denim jacket. I don't want to give the ending away but it involves a pattermed scarf. Here's some quick Instagrammage of mine:

DIY Digest: On Target

My quick. quirky quandary-solver was inspired by the marbled bangles from Prabal Gurung's recent collection for Target...

...and also those awkward occasions when you unwittingly treat yourself to a fabulous nail varnish, only to find you never wear it, be it for work or spare-time related reasons (let's be honest, is there really such a thing as adequately quick-drying nail polish on a 5-minute time budget when you're always late by default?). Worse still is when you find yourself repeating the error enough times to find yourself with a mountain of unused, semi-congealed nail polishes you can't find time to use or bear to throw away, like I did! While they do make fabulous dressing table ornaments - especially if you arrange them in rainbow-spectrum-style - it's always more satisfying to put them to good use, and to a find a way to slip them on in the space of two seconds!

You will need

5-8 differently coloured nail varnishes. (it helps if they work as colour combinations)

Bangles, ideally silver but any colour will do, metal or plastic. I picked mine up for £2 on the sale from H & M

Clear car lacquer

Difficulty

Very easy

...Granted it's even easier to make a mess if you're not careful but picky, picky!

Time

10 minutes

Nailing it!

Get your Baroques off - an Update

Just a quick post to let you know there's been some development on the tapestry textured DIY front. Those of you who've read my DIY Dolce & Gabbana-inspired textured tapestry handbag entry will know that I used Dylon pearlescent paint on tapestry woven fabric to create a brocade effect. Well, after a bot of brief experimentation, I thought I'd update you and let you know that Pebeo's Touch Textile Volume paint is better for getting a more puffed surface and a softer, more fabric-like texture. Since I aim to please in the field of near-plagiarist authenticity, I tried it out on a purse and thought I'd share a picture of the result below:

Tunic Top of the Pops - How to copy the Roy Lichtenstein-inspiredjumpers by 3.1 Phillip Lim

Q: What's the difference between the boldest fashion must-have of this season and a pile of old clothes?

A: Less than you might think.

Difficulty

Pretty Easy

Skilled-ish but it has to be one of the easiest, most straightforward, least time-consuming DIYs I've ever had the immense fun of doing.

Time

About 2 and a half hours for the tear-eyed motif, 3-4 hours for the 'Ka-Pow!' design.
